Just so I can get a third party opinion here's the situation:

Website is hosted by A domain name is registerd by B.
The hosting with A has it's own names servers. The domain name with B uses B's own name servers.

Without warning A's hosting changes the IP address of the server. As B does not use their nameservers site goes down for 2 days - Client not very happy!

Sorry about the As and Bs but I thought that would make it a little more objective - I'll let you know which I am in due course!

Thanks
Chris

A at fault. You can't just change IP addresses without warning.

A is at fault.

But why doesn't B use A's name servers?

A is at fault.

Partly. But the person who decided to use a third-party DNS with company B without considering the consequences must share some of the blame too.

But why are we talking about blame (unless you want to sue)? You should be thinking about responsibility.

Why did it take two days to figure out something was wrong?

So did A do their best to contact B?

Surely A should have made sure B knew *before* making the change?
