Beginners question here. If I publish my website will the subdomains automatically be published also? I have personal information etc on a few subdomains on my site and I didn't want to publish it if they would be published also. Also, do spiders see the automaticially? Thanks for the help. I tried looking for an answer on google before I made this request.

That depends on what you mean by publish. What do you mean that you already have a few subdomains on your site but it's not published yet?

Normally you have to setup subdomains to point to a particular folder on your server, but some web hosts will make all subdomains active automatically.

I'm sorry, I did say it unclearly in that post. What I meant was I have the website published and i have a few subdomains that i use personally but I don't want them to be seen or searchable or spiderable. I have not submitted my top level domain to any Search Engines yet becasue I wanted to find out if I in doing so, the subdomains would also be submitted. Would they be or would they remain hidden? Thank you for any help

Oh I see. On the one hand, submitting your top level domain will not automatically submit your subdomains, unless you have links to your subdomains that the spiders can find.

On the other hand, there is really no such thing as a "hidden" domain or subdomain. Spiders have a way of finding domains, whether or not you tell anyone about them -- either they come across log files that mention the domain, or they see it because you visit it with a toolbar installed, etc. If you actually want to hide a subdomain, it needs to be password protected.
