Well there seems to be a lot of hoopla and mystery about CMS's.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of moving to a database type CMS like phpnuke or mambo?

Under what circumstances should one consider a move to such a CMS?

Greetings! Here's my thoughts...

What are the advantages and disadvantages of moving to a database type CMS like phpnuke or mambo?

I think the advantages are a lot of features and easy to implement. You get a full featured website with minimal comparative effort. Usually a community of users to help you get started or develop your site. Add-ons to the website are usually easily downloaded and configured.

Disadvantages: the templates can be very confusing when trying to implement your own site design into the CMS. Learning curve in using and configuring all the features to the CMS. They don't often place well in search engines because of either poor SEM/SEO practices or because of php session ids that get passed on the url lines when search engine spiders traverse them.

Under what circumstances should one consider a move to such a CMS?

I'd move to a CMS if I was bound and determined to do everything myself or my site was a hobby type/general interest type site. I'd go with a web developer if I wanted to generate cash from my website.

Just one guy's opinion,
