Hi,

I've got a question about static IP's.

I've got a decent sized list and so I downloaded a server program. As soon as I started using it I came across the whole dynamic IP thing. My IP gets blocked because it's dial-up and dynamic.

If I get a static IP from my ISP and have a place like no-ip.com point to it with just one of their free myname.no-ip.com type domain names will that work to get round sorbs' dial-up and dns blocklists, etc.?

Appreciate it,

Rischen

I didn't catch who's all blocking you for what services. Are you talking hosting about a mail server? Generically speaking, if you are being blocked by IP address and you use dynamic name services, you will just be referencing the same IP or range of IPs with a different DNS name. Thus the blocking will still be in effect.

As far as if getting a static IP will bypass the blocking at sorbs and the other blacklists, they only way to know for sure is to get it and then query it against their service to see if your IP is included. But if you're going to mass blast a run of emails off of it, you'll be back on the list and blocked within hours anyway.

Hi Burner,

Appreciate it.

I've got PostCast Server on my computer for sending direct to recipients and Sorbs has got me blocked on its dnsbl. (Well, to be more exact it's got my one ISP's range entirely on lock on its dial-up list and the second ISP that I'm trying is clear on dial-up until I send out ten or so emails and then I get blocked on its dnsbl. And now that you've explained it, I know why.)

So when Sorbs thinks you're gearing up to do a big direct IP mailing it blocks you? Is there anything one can do to get round that? Will getting a static IP even help?

Thanks again, Burner.

So when Sorbs thinks you're gearing up to do a big direct IP mailing it blocks you?

You start sending mails out and you will fall into their various traps such as honeypots which are mail servers that blacklist people who send mail to their spamcatcher email addresses.

Yes there are ways around it and no, getting a static IP will only start you off with a clean slate. You'll still be blacklisted during your mail run

I suspect from what you're writing here that you've either purchased a mail list or spidered web addresses from the Internet. If this is the case, you will fall into all kinds of email traps. A word of warning. If you spidered the addresses from the net, then you are a spammer and I definitely wouldn't help. If you purchased a list, even one from a company that claims all their email addresses are opt-in, then you'd be a spammer and I wouldn't help. You see a list that was purchased means the people don't know you or your services and simple logic says they couldn't have opted-in for your stuff... They don't know you. Ergo it's a spam list.

You really should look into running something like Majordomo, MailMan, or a similar application and just maintain an email campaign with lists you develop yourself.
