Anyone know of a desktop application that will ping my 30+ sites say once every few hours and tell me if a site isn't responding? Getting an emails or text message would be convenient too.

I have 30+ sites of my own and each have their won instance of Apache. With the Apache 2.0 bug of some sites stalling out, I don't want to miss out on ads or potential revenue loss.

There's a few open-source ones available. I'm currently using Nagios (runs server side):-

[nagios.org...]

Sends us an email report if a socket or service isn't available for a set period of time.

If you're running jails or virtual machines, you'd need to put it on each.

dmoz is a good source to look through for applications like this. Try this category for starters:-

[dmoz.org...]

As a general reminder to other posters, please remember that tool drops are in general not allowed on WebmasterWorld.

Let's keep this to open-source well known applications please.
