Hello all

I've spent the past couple of weeks reading the information on this site - (it has the best signal to noise ratio of any discussion forum I've visited - well done!) - and it's apparent that most members operate either content or ecommerce sites but there's a distinct lack of people running web applications.

Being a programmer/developer, the latter category appeals to me. I'd be quite happy to have a go at a content or ecommerce site but a recurring idea on this forum seems to be to go with your strengths, and with what you enjoy and for me, that would most definitly be building web applications.

so how many people here do actually run sites which are more application than content or ecommerce? is content/ecomms more lucrative?

just looking for general thoughts and opinions on the matter.

In the current state of the internet it is hard to monetize a web app when there is another one that is being given away for free. So while there are some really successful companies doing what you are doing, ecommerce and content sites are much more accessable for the average independant webmaster to have a go at. I think you could be really successful if you combine your web apps with either a content or ecommerce site, depending on appropriateness. Diversification is where it is at.
