What is % of internet users do that?

I have seen statistics about the screen sizes used by users of the internet - but has anyone considered how many users have their Sidebar (Favourites, History etc.) permanently on.

It's just that it effectively makes a 1024px screen an 800px screen and strengthens the argument to keep designing fixed 800px web pages for a good while yet.

Any comments?

I taught html to students. If there were 10 students in a class maybe 1 student kept their history sidebar open. Of the others, the majority browsed with a minimized window - not the full screen - and full screen users accounted for maybe 2 or 3 out of the 10 students.

Your milegage may vary, but my experience showed that most students did not use the history sidebar as a regular browsing feature, and instead would open it only as needed, and maybe not even then.
