Hello there! I know you get to much e-mail, but hey that good shows your a busy person.

It's my office small business 2000 cd key which begins with h9xkh-r which I have read should be okay to upgrade patched but I can not get it to sr-1 level.

My new pc came with XP and software such as Microsoft access and word installed from dell Ireland. But I needed excel for some work items so I installed my old but good office small business 2000. I think Microsoft word that came with the machine is sr-1.

I can't get it to install for the office 2000. I am afraid to uninstall word in case problems get worse. I did uninstall Microsoft access to see if that was the problem.

Has any body any ideas! or has this problem happent to any others. I realise that I should upgrade to office XP, but not every one can afford upgrades every year.

Regards
Rory O'Connor

Hi rory - welcome to WMW.

So a MS product won't install on an MS operating system? Go figure :)

I did a little checking and there shouldn't be any problems. MS professes that Office 2000 should run fine under XP.

Can you elaborate a little more on what actually happens when you try to install Office?

Did you computer come with a recovery disk of some sort? I believe Dell is pretty good about that stuff. If so you should be able to return you computer the like new if you screw anything up too much.
