Hi there,

A user on one of my sites is struggling to see images of products, i am using the basic
img src="image.jpg" class="blackoutline" code, nothing fancy and am totally stumped.

has anyone come across this before and knows of a way round it?

Hi,

You should start checking if there are other visitors with the same problem;

besides that, have you modified some dorectory/path of your site recently?

not changed a thing, paths are all the same and 99.9% of visitors see the images fine which is the real bummer, if everyone was struggling it would be easy to figure it out.

Than,it's easier!

It's this visitor that has problems on his PC!

He could not be able to see images due to a missing software or to a hard firewall setting,or also to his connection provider or any other bug on his PC...

I would think so too but i've not come across a bug where that has been the case?

anyway, sure it'l go away ;-)

Suggest that they clear their browser cache. This will inevitably lead to you walking them through the process. :-)

What are the dimensions of the images in pixels, hughie? Are they all the same size? What is the name of the directory the images are stored in? Is the client running Norton Internet Security?

It's norton!

client turned it off, did a re-boot and bingo.

Why would Norton be blocking images from my site and no-one elses? is there a chance the domain was marked as BAD in the past before my client purchased it?

I've encountered similar situations. It's come up more than once with color charts. The whole site displays correctly, but the user can't see any of our color samples.

What are the dimensions of the images in pixels, hughie? Are they all the same size?

This is an excellent question, and may take you directly to a Norton issue, especially their ad blocker, which can cause all kinds of problems with rendering images, but not necessarily predictably, and only for a very few users. It about drove me crazy the first time that I encountered it. (Of course, WebmasterWorld came to my rescue on that one as well.) Most often it seems to come down to the ad blocker.

For more information about the evil Norton Internet Security, see this thread:

[webmasterworld.com...]

When you see this kind of problem, Norton Internet Security's stupid (in all senses of the word) ad-blocker is to blame in almost all cases. It is my number one question when someone complains about a problem with one of my sites.

Great link encyclo, and bookmarked. I've got hundreds of 125 x 125 out there. And yes, I've seen validation logos disappear because of the 88 x 31.

think i've fixed it

I had hot-link protection on my server enabled, i dis-abled this and bingo, all systems go.

<sarcasm>Glad to see Norton is a well thought out product that is keeping up to date with the modern age</sarcasm>
