I have some questions for anyone that can spare the time. I realise that you may not know the answers to all of them, so feel free to pick and choose which ones you can kindly answer:
1. Does displaying rss feeds on every page of your website affect your rankings negatively in the search engines, as the rss feeds may be seen as duplicate content, or do they help you by telling the search engines that you have regularly updated content?
2. Do the search engines ban/blacklist domains or IP addresses? It doesn't make sense to ban IPs since other (innocent) sites may be hosted under the same IP!
3. Would using automatic link exchange services be a bad thing even for a short period of time to get some search engine spiders to your site?
4. Does blog and ping still work in the search engines and is there a faster method for getting your site indexed?
5. It seems like there are hundreds of SEO courses out there and I am finding it difficult to choose one since I am new to SEO, but could you please recommend one that has been proven to be reliable?
6. Is there any way to make keywords research more interesting? :-)
Thanks.
I would answer to some of your questions:
2. Do the search engines ban/blacklist domains or IP addresses? It doesn't make sense to ban IPs since other (innocent) sites may be hosted under the same IP!
They ban/blacklist domain names that in some way are involved in spam activities:so don't worry if you have a shared IP address because this doesn't hurt other sites in any way.
3. Would using automatic link exchange services be a bad thing even for a short period of time to get some search engine spiders to your site?
This depends on the way you use them.Generally if only in order to get indexed it's better avoid it and get manually the links you wish.
4. Does blog and ping still work in the search engines and is there a faster method for getting your site indexed?
They works exactly as ANY other related web site.
A faster method to get indexed is getting good inbound links.
5. It seems like there are hundreds of SEO courses out there and I am finding it difficult to choose one since I am new to SEO, but could you please recommend one that has been proven to be reliable?
Sincerely I don't trust in these "courses": I learnt all by myself simply doing and doing and again doing;practice is the best way;buy or download a good and complete SEO software and read carefully all its tutorials:they are better than most of the books you can find.
Than, begin to operate one step at time, without any hurry. It requires time to succeed:a year, maybe more, but is the more reliable way I found.
6. Is there any way to make keywords research more interesting? :-)
You can use some advanced tools that find automatically the best terms related to your target and show you also how are they typed across the whole web and how many competitor pages has each one of them.Keep only in mind that in some cases they could be unaccurate for certain search terms, but it can be worth to try them...
Hope to be helpful
Sincerely
Thank you very much for your reply.
I was wondering if you could define "good inbound links"?
I seem to notice that many of the inbound links on offer (especially on eBay), generally seem to reflect that the higher the PR of a site, the higher the price of the link. I am sure it's not as straight forward as it seems and I was wondering if there is any way that these websites can manipulate PR so that a site my have high PR, but not necessarily have a lot of traffic or spider activity?
How do I judge the quality of a good inbound link?
I appreciate your help.
The yours are very good points!
A good inbound link is a link from wich you can "squeeze" the maximum possible of Page Rank:
In order to "judge" if a particular link is a GOOD link for you, you should consider the following:
1)The Page Rank of the "linker" page.
2)The number of outbound links of the "linker" page.
3)The content of the "linker" page.
This because PR is intended as a vote by the "linker" page to the "linked" page,BUT if a "linker" page has more outbound links, its vote is shared equally among the "linked" pages, you see?
So,if a page as PR 6 and it has 6 outbound links it allocates (theorically) PR 1 to each "linked" page.
The paradoxical consequence is that you could have more benefits if you're linked from a page with PR 3 and only one outbound link instead of a page with PR 8 but hundreds of outbound links.
This, without considering the structure of the "linked" site, that trough its own outbound links could leak and spread a considereable part of the received PR...
So,you're correct when you say that it's not as straight forward as it seems...
Besides that,Google evaluates also the "linker" page content and assignes a further "score" if it is closely related to the one of the linked page.
In effects it's not a case if Google algorithm counts over 2000 parameters evaluating a page in order to assign it PR...
As regard to the possibility of a PR manipulation ,it is faisable ,of course,But ONLY "playing into the rules":
I would mean that is possible for example to channel PR on a particular page by manipulating suitably the internal links of a site.
Or exclude some pages from the ranking.
Or hiding to the SE some or all the outbound links.
Altough this expose to the banning if get caught.
Or,but is matter for the most clever,by profitting of the SE "bugs" in order to set up specific "dirty ranking" softwares.
Don't be afraid to ask if you have other questions.
Sincerely
