Change them frequently or leave them alone?

We have a dabase with about 4,500 records. A while ago, we added categories, so if you were viewing a record for a widget made of green cheese, there would be a link to all other records dealing with widgets made of green cheese.

There are about 100 categories, and it's a good way to keep people jumping around the site, so we're going to put some of these categories on the home page. Now in addition to search by title and maker of widget, we'll have 4 or 5 category links - "Widgets used by Martha Stewart," "Widgets named after animals," etc.

Here's my question:
Is it better to change the category links every week or so, or should we put them up and leave them alone? Common sense tells me to change them, but I'm wondering it the search engines will ignore them if we do.

I would suggest you look at you log files to see what your visitors are looking at on your site. If they are looking at and buying green widgets then PUT the green widgets with BIG writing on the homepage. The easier it is for the people to get to the content they want the better for all involved.

The homepage is also a good place to inform people of any new content that you have added to the site...
