When Designing a website for someone, do you normally charge a flat fee, or hourly, or a combination?

That's one of those "Are you walking to school or bringing your lunch" questions.

It varies from day to day, job to job. Some people prefer hourly if it's a touch up, others want a flat fee.

with some of the people i deal with , its hourley.
i have one now that we have RE-written the site 3 times (now they want me to "copy" a site as it has the look they want "now").

can anyone give a range? someone asked me to make them a site and i've never done a site for anyone else so I didn't know what to charge.
