Many times a client will email me text to insert on his/her website. I will cut 'n' paste the text into notepad to remove formating, then I'll insert onto the web page. Is this the best and effective procedure?

jepp, clean and easy as long as you not using plain text editor for updating your website, then you can skip this procedure :-)
