Here is the lastest suit filed against Microsoft.

[marketwatch.com...]

My best rememberance was Sun originally sued Microsoft to force Microsoft to stop distributing Java.

Sun and Microsoft signed a consent decree which allowed Microsoft to distribute an out of date version of Java for up to 5 years.

Rather than distribute an obsolete version Microsoft left Java out of XP.

However, Java can be downloaded free from Sun and anyone with Java installed on a machine upgraded to XP can continue to use the older, obsolete version.

Proving that one has to be careful about what one wishes for, Sun woke up and and found that its wish is sinking client-side Java.

This is somehow Microsoft's fault and now Sun wants a billion dollars because Microsoft is complying with the terms of their settlement with Sun on the last suit. Why, I am confused?

There must be more to this, or my understanding is flawed. If anyone knows the facts I hope they will clarify.

Thanks, Cyril...glad I'm not the only one left scratching my head about this one. We must be on the same wavelength or must both have completely missed the boat on the first lawsuit.
