Time are changing and many companies that previosuly provided free news feeds are no longer doing so (Moreover.com, etc.) Can anyone recommend a source of good, free news feeds. I am specifically interested in tech based news feeds such as Java programming, Winodows XP etc. etc.

Thank you all.

There are numerous sites providing free feeds if you can incorporate RSS into your site.

Here are some feeds from webreference:

[webreference.com...]

webmaster world! (has their own RSS feed)

[syndic8.com...] is the leading authority and repository of RSS feeds (5,000 and counting up) and all information on how to use 'em. They measure the "quality" of the feeds (headlines updated per day, speed, etc), the type of feed (search for keywords in the description tag and title of each feed, RSS version, publisher, contact, etc etc.) They also provide references on software and services which parse and display and create RSS feeds. Most of the RSS junkies have come together and help over there.. a real community effort. I cannot over-estmate how much syndic8 has helped me. The owner and key helpers give much of their free time to this.

They do also list somemoreover feeds, but most are free. In fact i think moreover feeds are still free to non-commercial web sites? They have just made it harder to find the service. Maybe i am wrong.

Also try [newsisfree.com...] though im not sure if they provide free feeds anymore and what the conditions of use are.

For quality reviewed magazine article js-based feeds, you cant go past www.magportal.com. Same sort of conditions as moreover before for free feeds (hopefully they do have free feeds.. havent looked for a while ).. displaying a link to their site within the js ect and some extra conditions, but what they provide is real quality.

I think newsisfree feeds the news database in Daypop through their scraped and RSS feeds. But only the news database, not the bloggy (main) part.

Im not aware of a relationship between daypop and syndic8, though syndic8 polls and includes the newsisfree feeds in their database.

Ah - yes - my mistake. (newsisfree).

It just looked like syndic8 was setting up to be an affiliate program and using volunteer help to do it to me.

I would expect they would need to fund it sometime. Now userland is gone they are the key player.
