How can I open a pipe deliminated text file as a spreadsheet.

Using Openoffice

Hi all.

I have a pretty large text file (.db file) It has a pipe deliminater..

I need to remove item A from the each line so idealy I would like to open it in a spreadsheet app and remove the forst columb, I use oppenoffice and no matter what I ter. Open office always resorve to opening it in a plain text editor. I have tried renaming the file. .txt .cvs etc etc

An advice gratefuly received.

rename the file with a .txt extension.

Then go to File-->Open. In the dialogue box, change the file type to text.csv - BUT! make sure you scroll down the filetypes to the spreadsheet block for the .txt listing. there's another block of file types above that section that has all the docuement file types - one of which is .txt. Use that one and it'll open up as a doc. Use the .txt file type from the spreadsheet block of file types instead, and it'll bring up the delimiter dialogue that you want. (in short, there are two '.txt' file types - use the right one).
