How Long Does It take

Ok, I know there is no real answer, but I am curious and have to ask. I started my site a month ago, and am in a very small niche. Most of my keywords have less than 100 back links for the number one spot, and the 10 spot has less than 10. I have about 20 back links so far(I know that isn't all that's to it) I just want to make clear how small of a niche it is. the number one site is horrible with broken links and images, it hasn't been updated in years. I am just wondering when I should start seeing my site appear in the top 1000 results. I know it's still early, but it's my first site and I am very anxious. I have followed Brent's guide to a T. Any body have some guesses on when I should start appearing? How long did it take you?

Hi,

What are SEs you submitted your web site?
Have you got almost one inbound link from another indexed page in SEs?

In general if you've got almost a link, you may wait the time needed for the crawling process that is within 3/4 weeks as of the last time.If you dispose of an accessible log file you can verify easily that.
If after this time your site doesn't appears in the SERP,by typing its exact url, you have to review your link/s and to repeat the submission/s.

Keep in mind that Google (and others) finds you only if you are linked to other indexed web pages.

The question is quite complex.
It is perfectly normal that your site appears in the top ten results if you type your title, your url or some your links, but for the keyword search is quite different.
Are your pages optimized for?
Are you using "low competitors level" keywords?
How is the Page Rank of the pages you want that appear in the SERP?

For example,if you choose keywords that have a high number of competitor pages and your Page Rank is low it's quite difficult to come up inthe top 1000 SERP.

Or,again,if you have your niche with specific keywords that have a low or a very low number of competitor pages and you are not able to find your pages there is a SEO problem such as bad keywords distribution in tags or text.

If you want the number one spot see if you can buy that rundown site and make it not suck. It sounds like the owner has lost interest so you may be able to pick it up pretty cheap.

well,

I thank you for the observation "Frequent":

I would say that I'm not here to pick up pretty cheap web sites for the Search Engines;
In accordance with the spirit of this forum I only give some advices as well as in other situations other people gave me advices.

To give advices doesn't mean to work free for others.

My niche is very small the number 1 spot isn't even a top level domain, it's something like web.superb.net/keyword. Google does index my site, and updates the cache everyday. It's been a month now, and I don't know if I should start reworking the website since maybe I did something wrong. My page rank is still 0.

specter,

I'm afraid I don't follow your last comment, and don't see how it addresses Mcadieux's question in the least.

But that really doesn't matter since my suggestion was for Mcadieux. He has since elaborated on the #1 placed site and my suggestion clearly isn't an option.

Well I checked my stats program today and I am in the top 20 pages for about 10 very specific keywords. Not much traffic, but it's a start at least I know Google is adding my site. It gets so discouraging waiting, It's hard to keep focus. Webmaster World has helped me a lot and has kept me from giving up.
