The Googlebot-Image doesn't crawl nearly as often as regular Googlebot and their image directory is updated less often as well, so it takes some time to get your files in the image SERPS; several months probably.
I think it helps to place your photos in a directory named "images" and make sure that this directory is available to robots. Make sure you haven't disallowed it in your robots.txt [webmasterworld.com].
I also believe that naming your image files with keywords helps SERP placement, as does surrounding those files with keyword rich content and using appropriate alt="" descriptions.
