Hi for a long time i have always built html sites and then optimized them and done link partners to get ranked.. its worked well for a long time..

im about to start a new project cell phone site.. this will be really large.. have alot of categories and each category will have alot of pages..

do you think i would be wasting my time doing it completely as a blog? due to ranking reasons/? like most of the time when i type a keyword into the search engines on any subject usually most of the time first 10 sites are all html sites.. not blog sites.. which leads me to believe html still ranks better than blogs.. for keywords etc..

can anyone comment on this please.. to help me in my decision

lastly does wordpress allow you to have individual pages for keywords? so lets say i had a category called

NOKIA

under than was listed all the models. link for each model each link goes to an individual page where it shows phone. description etc.. title with keyword in it..

Could you define what you think a blog site is and what an HTML site is? I am under the impression that all blog sites are HTML sites. Do you mean static versus database driven?

If that still holds true for you then why get away from a successful strategy?

Perhaps you should consider a hybrid approach that leans less in the blog direction? Build your site with your *proven strategy* but add in rss features with respect to your content that you're interested in syndicating.

Wordpress does allow different keyword categories. I do that, it seems to work quite well. You can also have multiple levels eg. have Nokia>>Model

Make sure you set up the permalinks properly with .htaccess though, I'm sure you know about that.
