I'm interested in using my years of Corp. IT experience to start my own business helping small to medium sized businesses with websites, hosting, programming etc...

Does anyone have a recommendation of any good books that helped them get started with their web business?

w3.org
php.net

that should be all you need

good luck!

webmasterworld.com is the best SEO resource I know.

Brett's "Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone" [webmasterworld.com...] is worth the subscription (Although you don't have to subscribe)

Other than that come here and read a lot.

when buying your manuals, you can't go wrong with the O'Reilly series... they are expensive but not moreso than most other tech manuals.

If you're learning a new technology, grab the Wiley "Bible" for it (Wiley is the publisher of the series with the ubiquitous black-and-yellow covers). They are an excellent introductory series, but tend not to have the longevity of an definitive O'Reilly on your desk.

If you prefer structured learning, the IWA [iwanet.org] lists a few training programs, many of which can be done by correspondence. I ordered one in 2001 which was just one big 800+ page book about the WWW. (though it was an IWA approved credit, I never bothered taking the exam or getting their certification)

Zeldman - designing with web standards. That book has saved me more time and effort than I could ever repay.
