BT cgi-bin / Clara.net - something's changed

Formmail isn't reaching me any more

I have long been using the btinternet.com/cgi-bin/userform.cgi to process formmail on my sites which are hosted by Clara.net. This has run without a hitch for years.

In the last few days, though, the BT cgi-bin has stopped posting messages submitted via the forms on my sites.

I can't find any information on the issue at all. Can anyone throw any light on what has changed?

Thanks so much...

Looks like their website is down.

Thanks for checking. It seems to have been down since Friday at least.

Do you know how to get news on what's going on and maybe even a forecast of when it's likely to be back?

I know absolutely nothing about that website so I cannot help you there.

It's a bit risky to use external services for your website. Doesn't your host allow local formmail?

I've checked and no, my host doesn't allow local formmail as far as I can see.

I'd be really grateful for any suggestions on a way forward...

McNeelix: change host? pretty much every host allows some sort of CGI scripting these days.

petrolhead: look for form mail scripts in some script archive (hotscripts). There are hundreds of them.

I have used and worked for Claranet and from what I remember they gave you access to form mail, even on free hosting accounts. If you have any paid hosting you should be able to either use their form mail script or use your own, and any cgi script you choose (php perl etc)

Thanks for all your suggestions. I've now registered with formmail.com and paid what seems a very reasonable amount for a reliable service.
