Linking subdomains to my www.

I am building a question answer script to help my visitors find the information they want.

I am going to put this on a subdomain.

The Q and A section should end up having around 500-1000 questions. A good majority of the answers will link to articles on my main (www.) site.

2 questions:

1. Will I get any penalty having a few hundred pages on a subdomain link to pages on my main site?

2. Can I get duplicate content penalty for having some of the same content on my main and my subdomain?

Thanks!

Hardly. Lots of websites have some of their content on subdomains for editorial and other completely legitimate reasons. And the search engines know that.

Has anybody ever proved the existence of "duplicate content penalty"? I have very often had two or more pages with the same or almost same content and they have all been in the SERPs, only with one page performing much better than the other(s).
