What to do when your ISP is on an intenational DNSbl?

The ISP itself has been blacklisted. However this caused our mails to come back, what is the best course of action?

When your ISP is blacklisted, they usually take one of two approaches. They see it as an embarasment and do everything they can to get themselves removed from the list - Or - They dont care and continue buisness as normal.
If your ISP takes the first option, inform them of your problems and find out how long they will take to fix it. If they take the second approach, then you'll need to find another ISP or mail provider.
