Remaking my website

Hi,

I don't really like my site because it is rather basic and if I was to design a new one today, it would be structured differently. Anyway, my question is if I should design a new site with another domain or design a new site for this domain. The reason that I am unsure is if I made a new site, it would have some of the same content that is on this one. I have also put work into this one, have several links coming in and several repeat vistors. Any advice would be great.

(you should probably pull the URL, they are not allowed here.)

I just redesigned a site with an entirely new look. It's on the same URL and every page that I discontinued was replaced with a 301 redirect to the new version of itself.

No since in changing domains.

I don't see an edit function to these boards (for my post).
edit: I see it now, but it's too late for my first post :O(

Thanks for the reply. How did you relaunch your site? Did you redesign the entire site and then launch it all at once? This is what I was planning on doing. But then I thought, if I'm building a whole new site, why not make it a new URL. The only problem I see in this is repeating content. How important is this to search engines? Money doesn't matter, so is it worth remaking the site just to not repeat content?

What happens if you redesign a site by adding an new layers of content? So long as the old pages are viewable at the same url, does it matter if the link structure changes?

For instance, suppose I have mydomain.com

mydomain.com's index links to three main categories

three main categories link to 3 subcategories each

Now suppose I decide to add a level between main categories and subcategories

Will this cause problems with search engines if the main categories don't link to the pages at the bottom, but rather to the new layer, which in turn links to the bottom?
