I noticed a file added to my site and I don't think I added it. I am in the learning process. The file is "aspnet client". It includes a file of "system web". That includes a number file and then that includes "smartnav.htm", "smartnav.js", and "webuivalidation.js". What are these files and what do they do?

Thanks

Hello av8erab,

Thats part of Microsoft's .Net Framework.

If your developing a website that utilizes this technology, and you delete that folder, you would need to re-install Asp.Net.

I have not been adding anything like this and I don't know how. Is it possible someone added this to my site for their own purpose?

Thanks

Those files won't hurt anything at all. If you have Win2k, XP, Win3k.. etc and you used Microsoft's Windows Update, one of the updates is the Asp.Net 1.1 update OR installation.

If your website is being hosted, (not in your direct control) then they've added/updated their systems to support the .Net Framework.

I would be suspicious if this has happened on a server which you are hosting yourself.

But if this is a server which is being remotely hosted then I would not be alarmed because hosting companies make changes occassionally, but I would contact your hosting company and tell them about the file, make them aware and see if they are alarmed or know about it.

Good luck.
