can a webhosting company make your website run slower then usual

I am using a webhost company that had good reviews but I feel like my site loads slowly sometimes.. at least 1-3 seconds slower then other websites.. i notice that when I log into my email account on my webhost it takes an unusual long time to see my email messages...could my webhost be the reason why my website runs kind of slow sometimes? is it a hassle to change webhosts?

You should ask them what's wrong.

Could be on a server with a lot of other sites, or possibly one that is streaming porn videos or whatever.

Yes, it can be a pain to switch. Do what you can to make this one work first. And make sure to check to make sure your pages aren't heavy with HTML and graphcis. Then switch if you can't resolve anything.

thanks... i have a little bit of flash on my homepage. i am thinking that is what slows it up
