I have a site with a few hundred new articles (300+) I'm about to put up. However, all the articles are written by myself.

A friend of mine (not a webmaster) suggested I create several pen names to use so it didn't seem like I was a one man operation.

I've very skeptical of this, but before I disregard the advice I wanted to ask other webmasters.

Good Idea?
Bad Idea?

didn't seem like I was a one man operation.

Multiple "name" authors would counter that effect, but the question is one of marketing. In some situations being known to be a one-man operation can actually be an advantage.

What kind of image do you want to convey?

i also posted a thread on "pen names" looking for advice. after sorting through my thoughts and reading some pros and cons i think it is best to stick with your own name. take the credit for the articles, many sites are great one-man sources and we don't hesitate a bit making repeated visits. i agree with trill, it even has great upside because people feel they "get to know you" and can rely on your information. another factor is if it just does not feel right in your gut, don't bother with it. good luck and i am envious of your stash of articles. i have not yet one to my name for a new site i am planning, i have a lot of content to write!
