Do Government sites use metadata for their search facilities? ie to search
A customer has asked me if a uk site (that will be mentioned on various Government sites) requires specific metadata?

The only thing I have ever heard is speculation. Some people said that certain govt. sections filter content by checking for a value in the rating meta like below:
<meta name="rating" content="GENERAL">

The speculation was that a site needed to be rated "G" not "R" (For non US... Safe for kids and not explicit)

Aside from that, an ICRA tag probably wouldn't hurt, and they are free. Here's an example:

<meta http-equiv="pics-label" content='(pics-1.1 "http://www.icra.org/ratingsv02.html" l gen true for "http://www.widgets-world.net" r (nz 1 vz 1 lz 1 oz 1 cz 1))'>

This label declares:

No nudity or sexual material
No violence
No potentially offensive language
None of the "Other topics"
No chat facilities
