Hi all, Just trying to find no-cost ways to help promote my website to others - and started looking at the send-a-cards thing. As far as I can see, there's 2 variations on it, you can either do the bluemountain type, where a visitor to your website sends an email to their friends from your website, saying something along the lines of, "your friend has posted a card on example.com click here to view it" ok, so that brings others to your website.

The other variation, is where the visitor completes their email address while on your website, their friends email address and they click send, then their friend receives an email about your website.

Any other variations on this send a card service?

Has anyone here had personal experience of using it on their website please? Any good?

Any thoughts welcome.

Dex.

On two sites I have an ultra-simple "Recommend us" type link where a user can fill in someone's email address and the friend gets sent a mail.

Viral word-of-mouth marketing like that is a very very powerful tool. Never underestimate it, there is absolutely nothing like a personal recommendation. I get far more excited seeing e-mail click-throughs in my logs than I ever would from seeing SE referrals.
