application/octet-stream problem

Hi. I am using Firefox 1.0 which is working perfectly apart from one little thing.
I can not view my yahoo email in Firefox. When I enter
When I type in mail.yahoo.com and press “enter” a pop box comes up saying:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You have chosen to open
Login
Which is an application/octet-stream
From: [uk.f869.mail.yahoo.com...]
What should Firefox do with this file:
Open with:
Save to disk
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sometimes Firefox will open mail.yahoo.com but once I enter my yahoo username and password and press “enter” the same pop box opens.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Yahoo mail opens perfectly in IE.

I am using WindowsXP Home with SP2

I think this may have been discussed before. It sounds like FF is handling a specific mime type incorrectly, which could be a result of an incorrect registry value.

Simplest solution is uninstall and reinstall. If that doesn't fix it, pass the page to an http header checker - that should yield a clue.

Thanks for your help Kaled.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox several times but initially that did not help.
However I noticed that although I had uninstalled Firefox whenever I reinstalled it all my bookmarks and my browser history were still intact. This suggest that the uninstall process was not removing everything.
I went back and deleted my profile which is stored here in XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile name>\

I reinstalled Firefox and voila I can now access yahoo mail!

I post this here for anyone else who may have this problem later.
(Remember to export your bookmarks before you delete your profile)

Thanks

Mental:
I had the same problem with Yahoo mail; your fix (deleting the Firefox entry in profiles) worked without needing to uninstall/reinstall Firefox. Thanks for posting your solution.
