Ok, Iv bought a domain name with 123reg.co.uk. Now I need a server to host my site right? I have a site created in Dreamweaver, therefore I dont need to wait. Is there any easy way to use the site, on my current computer. So as using my computer as the server?

If you aren't really, really good with the hardware side of computers, you probably wouldn't want to host it on your own computer. There are several cheap hosting companies around where you can get hosting starting at up to $4 depending on your needs.

If you mean, is there a way you can just, you yourself, surf around the site to check links and whatnot, all you need to do is open your browser, go to File>Open and browse your way to the place you have it stored on you computer and open the index.htm. Or *duh on my part* you said you were using DreamWeaver, you should be able to veiw the page in your browser from DreamWeaver and surf the site from that..

No.

Tom, in addition to the hardware issues, you need software and bandwidth.

On the bandwidth side, even if you have a broadband connection, the upload is probably too slow, and most broadband consumer accounts don't allow it anyway.

If you are connecting from an office with a T1 connection, for example, then it's a matter of setting up the hardware with Linux/Apache or M$ server, and then taking care of a myriad of security issues that are difficult to learn in a hurry.

Best solution? Take hannamyluv's advice and set up a cheap virtual hosting account and leave the server details to the experts.

If you just want to surf through your site YOURSELF ON YOUR COMPUTER, you can install one of the apache distros and open your site through localhost in a browser. If what you want to do is run a server on your machine which will be accessible to your mates through the net, you're going to have to jump through a lot more hoops than just a router, including all of the horrible security scenarios (and what happens when your machine ISN'T secure!) that you read about elsewhere in these fora.

It's not for the faint of heart - AND it does require a fair amount of money which I gather is a problem as well....

Stop being so cheap, they have some really really good low priced host out there. You can mow a couple lawns and have enough money to get a host. I only pay 65 a YEAR for top notch services. I shopped around like a mad man. 25 gigs of music, copyrigted material? Downloading it illegally is one thing, getting busted for distributing it is another.
