Someone copied a site

This is just weird. I found a site
http://mydomain.theirdomain.com/display.cgi?sited=somenumbers&page=somemorenumbers

The site uses my content, laid out with a new look. When a product link is clicked my pages open up. Actually, my old original pages... which are still lurking around (hmmmm). And the content, its from about March of this year.

Whoever did this I surmise is either:

too busy to notice most of the site has been changed

too busy sitting in jail

moved on to advanced Hijacking 3.0

Its weird because, as wrong as it all looks, it almost seems like free advertising. What do you suppose gives?

Besides improving the appearance of my original design, I still haven't been able to connect the dots and figure out the purpose of this front-end.

Low-brow hijacking?
A high school project?
A web designer hoping to get my position?

Are they really your old pages or just copies with someone elses affiliate code on the products. It kind of sounds like good old fashioned content theft.

Its content theft, my old stuff was put into a template. Surprisingly I'm not exactly upset about it. There doesn't appear to be any affiliate code on the pages at all.

So first I'll redirect the old pages. Then I'll snail out a few DMCA notifications.

OK, looking deeper into theirdomain.com comes up with a web development site in Hong Kong. I'm not sure if I can use the words Ultimate and Search in the same sentence. If I could I might be able to name the registrant.

I still find it more of a curiosity than an annoyance. Maybe the plan is to let it rank higher before installing any black code.

I'm sure I've seen this done a few times in the past. I know a guy that spiders the web looking for search results that are relevant to his directory. He harvests the results and tweaks the pages a little. ie he puts your content into his template. Then with a little bit of cunning mod_rewrite type stuff he hides his affiliate links. Brilliant!

To find it search Google "wayback".
Websites are archive back to 1996.

I'm curious about something. I thought I'd ask here first...

Does anyone have experience with G and DMCA notifications? Specifically, I'd like to know if there is a "reasonable" time frame for handling these requests. I'm not getting impatient, but I just looked and saw the site still listed that breathed life into this thread, and it got me to wondering.
