I have had a request from someone who wants me to design 38 different websites for him. They will be simple 3 page websites and won't take long to do. I will get a good deal from this but i don't agree with his reasons or logic behind it. Before I go and tell him my views, i thought i'd ask on here to see if i am right.
Here is what he wants to do:
Buy 38 domain names, some of which are not very good. i.e. widgets.biz, widgets.uk.me, blah blah blah. He has bought these domains because they are keywords which show up in overture. His reasoning has been that if these domain names have the same key words in meta tag titles and top of each homepage then they'd have had a good chance of getting the number of hits shown on overture!
And as long as the site contained a product relevant to keywords only (which they will) then at least some would have converted into a sale.
That's a potentional - 1208746.000+ hits we could have each month between the sites which are linked to each other.
1% of this is = 12087.46 Sales!
0.5% of this is 6043.73 sales!
0.25% of this is = 3021.86 sales!

My view is that this is just a waste of money. Just because the domain may have a keyword that gets a few hits from overture, doesn't mean the website itself (especially one that is 3 pages) will get these hits. I am pretty sure i'm right, but i'd appreciate your views.
