A client of mine has a daughter starting a new business that has just a little in common with dad's site. Bearing in mind that dad's site has a reasonable influx of visitors, how would you deal with running the two?
I'm leaning toward just setting aside a folder in dad's domain.
We could buy a new domain name and co-host, then interlink.....
....or go with a sub-domain....
The two sites will have to be interlinked, which of the above would bring best all round results, do you guys/gals think? Or maybe you have other suggestions......

If she thinks her business will be a stand-alone success, definately go with her own domain (If it's a hobby, then it doesn't matter).

Being related, the link from pop's site will give her a kick start, and it sounds like both could help each other - independently.
