I've been using an until now free software called SynchIt to keep my bookmarks in sync across different computers. Starting in November they're going to be charging $50 to use their service...that's a bit more than I'd care to pay.

Can anyone here suggest a good free/cheap bookmark sync software that isn't filled with spyware?

Hi,

You used the word "bookmark" several times so I am assuming that you are reffering to Netscape. If so I have been doing this manually from my home to my work PC. I just put on a floppy my bookmark.htm file which is located under (If you let NN choose the default dir) c:\program files\netscape\users\whatever\bookmark.htm. Then once on floppy and at work I open/choose edit with the work bookmarks and choose import, select the file on floppy and let it pull the bookmark.htm file in.

I, too, was forced to leave SyncIt. The best alternative I've found is HotLinks.com. If anything, they are better than SyncIt were.

Yes, though I don't really try to keep bookmarks and favorites in sync, I have used hotlinks (and blink.com) to collect them from multiple machines and end up with a consolidated list. Blink has added too many whistles & bells for my liking, but hotlinks is still pretty fast and easy.

I was an old Netscape fan, and the nomenclature stuck. Plus, it's a lot easier to say bookmark in Japanese than it is to say favorites. ;)

Actually, I used SynchIt to synch all of my 'bookmarks' in Netscape, Mozilla and IE, for all of my machines. (Opera does a fine job importing from IE) For testing purposes I have multiple versions of Netscape browsers (2.02, 3.0, 3.01, 3.02, 3.03, 3.04, 4.03, 4.07, 4.08, 4.5, 4.75...you get the picture) so it was really handy to just have SynchIt make sure all my 'bookmarks' were the same across all browsers and all of my various machines.

I shall give HotLinks.com a whirl. Thanks.

I use fusionone.com, it recently went to paid "preferred" service, but it was like ~35 (i think) for a year.

I just wish it supported an email program other than M$ LookOut. (Lookout for Outlook Transmitted Diseases, OTDs)

Slade, thanks for the info, but the fusionOne site describes their services as "data mobility services and software for the wireless carrier and mobile enterprise markets". I was looking more for something that works with various browsers on a PC. Maybe they have something like this, but I didn't see it.

Checked out Blink, but their whole site looks like a giant pop-up ad. A lot of spy-ware on their free stuff page, so I think I'll pass on that one.

Any other suggestions?

Tried HotLinks.com and can't say I'm impressed...it's just an online bookmark repository...compared to my beloved SynchIt, which sits in my toolbar and waits for me to add a bookmark or favorite and then synchs everything for me...maybe it's time for me to stop being cheap, and cough up the cash...
