Fair price for articles?

I'm thinking about creating a new section on my site that would have a variety of articles, including some "how-to" articles. For example, "how to diagnose common blue widget problems," or "how to inspect a used red widget before purchase."

While I'm knowledgeable on these subjects to a degree, I'm not an expert. But I know experts, and have asked them if they would write articles, and they have agreed. Problem is, none of us knows what fair market value for such articles might be.

These are experts on widgets, but they're not professional writers. Their articles are certainly easily understood, though.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

How many people do you think will read the article on a given month? This may help with a guess-timate.

Hi, Kodaks. Right now the site is very new, and only drawing in a few thousand visitors a month.

Unless the SEO rules have changed completely in the last year or so, the site should be bringing in at least 100,000 visitors by next spring.

Does that help you with your guesstimates?

Thanks again for any reply.

The writer would say offer them something decent like $25 an hour or $100 an article. The businessperson would say offer them the lowest amount they would consider doing the work for. Me, I'd probably base it on Adsense earnings for that niche and what I could afford at the moment.

If you don't want to think that much, just set a flat five cents per word rate or something.;)
