How can I retrict access to certain subdomains on my site?

After going over my logs, I realized that there are quite a few people getting to my current site via old beta versions of my current site that I still have sitting on the server. I would like to keep them up for now, but hide them...is there any easy way to do this? Will robots.txt do this? Or will robots just tell spiders to stay away?

Robots.txt will only keep away spiders that follow the robots.txt rules. We need to know what kind of server you have to do this. MS or Linux

You could password protect your beta versions.
