Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com] eBizDude!

Have you tried a search for "blog engine"?

I can see quite a few around if you ignore the first few inevitable results of actual blogging sites (b2evolution may be worth a look - free and open-source).

You could also consider using a Wiki engine which may equally well suit what you're trying to achieve.

I'm not quite sure if this is what you're looking for - but try here:

[farook.org...]

and download the Blog software :)

Are you looking to do a traditional blog, or is it more like a collaborative online newspaper?

If the former, then you should look at WordPress [wordpress.org], which is a traditional blog system with multiple users.

If you are doing something more complex, the you could try out SPIP [spip.net] (although it helps if you speak French with that one!) or even something like Scoop [scoop.kuro5hin.org].

MovableType will do multiple users, but that version isn't free.

Thank You freinds
I read ur messages and tried all these apps. let me give u feedback

-- scoop -- too complicated for a non-tech webmaster like me

-- wordpress -- average. though maybe good for small community

--spip -- absolutely the best and easiest to use.

--farooq -- i didnt understand it much

moveabletypes -- paid thing so didnt even look at it

b2evolution looks good

On 2nd thoughts

Blogs maybe be great for long writing etc
But there is nothing to beat a good ol' BBS :) like this one. Its QUICK, No Language hangups and Focused to the point.

ebizdude, I'm glad you like SPIP - it is one of the best "online newspaper" CMSs out there and is full of good features. I'm not sure as I said about the quality and quantity of the English language documentation, though.

The script grew out of an implementation for a large international French-language newspaper, so it scales well also.

MoveableType as someone mentioned above. The multi user version is no longer free - but be aware that MoveableType in general is only free for non commercial blogs. If this blog has any commercial interest or plans, you would need to pay a license fee with MT anyway. MT also has "spam control" in the form of a blacklist plugin you can download seperate from the program.

You can also check out Expression Engine by pmachine. The paid versions allow for multiple weblogs for sure, but you'll have to check to see if they offer multiple features. EE also has "spam control" features - it has a text box that pops up for each comment in which you must look at and enter the random word for the comment to go through.

Both platforms are very versatile.
