Is there a service that can tell me how long it takes to load a page at a variety of different speeds (I.E. DSL/Dial-up/etc.) Also, is there a service that can constantly check on our site to ensure that it is loading at an appropriate speed?

Thanks,

Here's a tool [websiteoptimization.com] for manually checking.

There are some tools here:

I especially like this one, which eliminates the need to have a stopwatch handy:

Don't forget that perceived download speed is more important than actual speed of download of the whole document. Say if we take this forum as an example, then on front page people want to see first few thread links with comments - they can start reading (which takes time!) while the rest of the document is being downloaded.

Reality is nothing - Perception is everything.

Are these good load times? I had added 2 banners at the bottom, and removed all layer and pop up/under ads. At total of five ads on each page, but still in a clean format.

Connection RateDownload Time

14.4K 32.42 seconds
28.8K 16.31 seconds
33.6K 14.01 seconds
56K 8.48 seconds
ISDN 128K 2.74 seconds
T1 1.44Mbps 0.42 seconds

Thanks,
