Can I sell advertising on my site directly?

I'd like to avoid using third parties like Adsense

I have three content sites catering to pretty narrow niche markets. Can I go directly to other sites which sell products of interest to my visitors and sell them on the idea of buying a banner ad on my sites for a fixed monthly fee? If the price is high enough, I'd even identify them as the "page sponsor" like I have seen another successful site do.

If this is possible, how do I determine what to charge as a monthly fee? That's where I get stuck.

I think it would be finme to ask other websites about advertising on your site. It depends on the size and popularity of your site, on how much money to charge. You may want to find similar sites to yours on the internet, and find out how much they charge. This way you will get a general idea. I hope this helps!
