Hello folks,

I have built a website for myself designed to help promote m skills and so on. I have not been sucessful in getting onto both google and yahoo. I bult it using apache/CF & DB2. Is there something I need to do other than just keep submitting. I have been doing that for months now.

submitting is more or less a waste of time, get a link to your site on a site that is already in those search engines, your site will be listed in a few weeks.

That doesn't mean you'll be top of the SERPs, it just means your site will get indexed. You can tell when your site is indexed by cutting out a sentence from your site, putting it into the search box like this:

"your sentence, long enough to be totally unique"

use the " when searching, if your site comes up number one for that sentence you are indexed. After that, read the search engine forums, google and yahoo especially to see what it takes to get listed higher.

Keep in mind that there are probably millions of such sites out there, so unless you have something really unique to offer, you won't see your site very high in the serps.

read the brett tabke thread on a successful site in 12 months, he knows what he's talking about, it works.
