Promoting a new site

What are the best ways in promoting a new site besides Adwords and Overture? Any suggestions?

Hummm, what about developping content in order to better respond demand in the first place?

You may want to try the following:
-Submit webpage URL to many search engines
-Start a newsletter
-Add a tell a friend section to your site
-Offer something webmasters can take from your site, and paste it on their site (like an article or news feed)
-Join a banner or link exchange
-Join or start a webring
-Add a signature to the bottom of all of your outgoing emails with an ad for your site
-Start your own affiliate program
-Start joint ventures with other web site owners
-Add your URL on free for all pages

a good way is to offer free content to other sites in return for a link in the credits of the article...

I already have my existing sites link to them, so that should help with the promo. Plus, I have my main site linking to it so that the major search sites pick it up. But that also takes a few weeks to start generating tome decent hits. Is there anything else I can do in the interim besides sitting on the sidelines and waiting?

The best way of promoting a new site is using these techhniques :

URL Submission in all top search engines including open directories and good (pr ) sites which allow your url to be submitted.

Link exchanging (* Reciprocal) with other sites of same category with a good pr and willingness to exchange.

Creating a resoure page and posting others links so that same can be done on their websites.

Creating Newsletters with a disclaimer and forwarding to as many as possible.

There are many more....

Yes, you made some interesting points except for the e-mailing suggestion. I believe that many people would consider that SPAM, and it would hurt me more than benefit the site.
