I'm facing a dillemma and would appreciate any input.

I run a website that also has a forum. The forum is more active than the site and so I am now wrestling with the idea of making my homepage the portal of the forum instead of the page I currently have.

The problem is that if I do this, I would need to change my url to end with index.php. My question is this:

I currently have a google PR of 5. By doing this, will I lose my PR and start from scratch?

You may use .html for your .php files instead.
(As you only use PHP files due to the forum seems to be written in you may have no fallout from it due parsing simple HTML files for PHP.)
Simple change it in you http.conf in the section for .php. Put a .php before the .html.
