I tried to install and run mysql on windows 98. installation goes through but cannot connect to host. it says host unknown. error 2005

I dont have a network card installed, is that the reason. because the system requirement says needs tcp support.

ok, you dont have a network card, no problem. but from the windows installer cd, ensure that u have the networking components installed - TCP/IP, netbios/netbeui, MS filesharing.

Restart and use sql with pleasure!

Hi,
Thanks for the info.

But how can I deal with thisproblem?

"Unknown host"
"Error 2005"
"Cannot connect to host"

These errors come when I try to create a database and run mysql.

You're using either "localhost" or 127.0.0.1, right? (IS that right? been a long time since I used the actual "localhost" IP addy....)

If that's not it, I can't help you - I've never run this sort of stuff on my own machines. You could try the MS knowledgebase online....
