I would like some advice please. I own a small dating agency 7 years old this September. I have around 45'000 clients. I send out a newsletter bi-weekly. My ISP has informed me that as from October they will have a limit of 750 emails per day. This is to try and stop SPAM. My newsletter is opt-in only but my ISP cannot help.

A friend has suggested that I use one of my spare computers as a mail server. He is willing to set it up using! msql php.......! not into this technical side. He says by doing this I can continue sending out my emails as normal. I use a bulk emailer and normally send out around 7000 daily. Can some one tell me if this is correct as I don't want any problems with my ISP.

My OS is win2000pro and the spare computer is pen3

Many thanks

gi3wgk, welcome to WebmasterWorld.

If sending bulk e-mail is soon going to be against your ISP's TOS/AUP, you're probably out of luck... Do you send these out using Outlook or or another program from your office?

Setting up a mail server in your office that is connected via the same ISP may still violate their rules... Many ISP's don't allow you to run servers of any type, unless you have a commercial level account.

You don't mention if you have a website, can you set-up the mailing list there with your web host? Lots of hosting packages include access to newsletter software.

Hope this helps.

If it's your ISP preventing the mass emails and not your hosting company, then using MySQL and PHP is a great solution to send out emails directly from your server.

I've written quite a few custom scripts to do just that! You can also find many free mailing scripts online.

You'll notice that sending the emails directly from your server using a script will go Much faster than using Outlook on your local machine.
