Domain name theft? Maybe.

Use of your domain name "without Dots" by other sites

In the wild wild web many strange pratices in optimizing for hits and profits come in to play.

One that I am seeing more and more of in one area (highly competive)that I play in is the use of your URL, domain name without Dots by other sites to direct hits for your URL to their sites.

Example (www.url or keyword phrase.co- / org) is optimized by other site without any DOTS with rest of page optimized for product. Often using your content in incoherent sentences. Their pages are of course full of links to their affiliates or google adsense or feeder pages to their main page, often with very good PR and ranking.

The sad part is it seems to be working (yes even in google.)

What does the WebmasterWorld community think of this pratice?

How do you stop it, or can you?

The common answer is to build good content and they will come. That is true to an extent.

But as you add they add it has to be a drain me thinks.

To go along should we use this same pratice for our sites? Feeder pages? (If you can't beat em join em thing)

Seems to be an espcially effective pratice
for sites that have built domain recognition.

You thoughts on this please.

yup... seen a few SEO people doing this with www.mysitenamegoeshere.-/www.google.com
www.mysitenamegoeshere.-/www.yahoo.com
www.mysitenamegoeshere.-/www.overture.com

All producing their sitemap page (prob a 404 trap). Looks pretty cheesy if you ask me...
