Hope that's easy enough.

Review your logs. Our Tracking and Logging [webmasterworld.com] forum has a lot of good tips on how to interpret your logs.

There are literally thousands of services that count hits and page views for your website. Try a search on google for "counter" or "free counter". I would recommend the paid version of sitemeter, but there are many other high quality counters. I hope this helps!

Well, I would be looking more to keep track of visitors and pageviews and not "hits" but that may have been what you actually meant by using the term. Some hosts come with pretty decent stats if you're not inclined to do it via your logs. Remember when looking at stats programs that stats tracked by graphic images can sometimes be unreliable and they don't track spiders to my understanding.
