HTTrack Website Copier -found in my logs-

Is it OK , if not any protection?

Hello
I reviewed the logs of a new site
and found that a few times "HTTrack Website Copier"
has been used on my site

How deep (stealing PHP scripts?, accessing DB conn?)of a copy can be generated with that tool
any risks?
if so how can I keep it away from my site

regards

Henry

well it can't get the scripts themselves, just their output

I guess it's time to drag this thread out
A Close to perfect .htaccess ban list [webmasterworld.com]

the thread is monstrous but it is a great one, get yourself a drink and sit in a comfortable chair. ;)

HTTrack can easily be set to identify itself as a variety of standard browsers, so the .htaccess solution is far from perfect.

HTTrack author provides an "abuse FAQ for webmasters" where you can find how to stop the robot if you can find a good reason to do that.

DanA

I replied without seeing yours

Is it on the HTTrack site or does it come out of a special request?

The tool has been on my site from the same IP 4 times the same day

Did I make something better than I know about :)
Hmmmm becoming international!

It's very popular in France. After blocking the major french ISP for a year, I moved to displaying them a warning page mentioning the so-called offline browsers and forcing them to accept a cookie before continuing on my precious content sites. Have not had any attempt for a year now.
