Yahoo says its terms of service do not allow it to use the text of e-mail messages to select which ads to show users. But Yahoo's e-mail and other services do consider users' demographic and behavioral information, including ZIP codes and what Yahoo services they use, in choosing ads.

Now, where did those privacy folks go?

    How can they afford it?
I remember when it was 1MB space!

I don't use their free mail, SBC/Yahoo is my DLS provider so it's their ISP mail (which is incredibly good). Any advertising I see when logged on to any of the services is definitely female-oriented, like cosmetics type products.

It's expected that demographic data will be used for serving advertising, it's no suprise andy more than just loggin in to some sites automatically delivers the local weather.

That's more than ISP customers have been getting. It's been 10meg or 25meg if using one of the free included upgrade options.

It's more about (them) feeling like they can't afford not too.
