Any one ready to work with setting up domian name servers from the begining. I have my static IP addresses, How can I put the name server like ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com with registrars like register.com or godaddy.com etc. The intent is to set my own web hosting on my windowsXp professional

Contact whichever registrar you prefer and ask them. It's fairly straightforward. It'll be easiest if you contact whoever is the registrar for the domain you are going to use (it's a long time since I've done it - you may hav to do that).

But are you sure you want to host your own sites on WinXP Professional? I would *strongly* advise that you use Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 (the latter is available as a web server version for less money).

Thanks Sullen. You mean if I ask my registrar (say register.com) they will alot name servers like ns1.myhost.com and ns2.myhost.com to my static IP address like 255,****,****,**** yyy, yyy, yyy, yyy and then I can direct all my sites at ns1.myhost.com.

They should be able to set it up for you, yes. If they can't or won't do it, then you can do it yourself at Network Solutions (at least, you used to be able to do that). But you need to be running DNS server on the machine for it to work.

Thanks Sullen
I called my registrar in the mean time and he is OK with this.
Wow! that was simple. I appreciate your help.
